Good-natured and loyal, Disney’s Goofy made his first appearance in the 1932 cartoon, Mickey’s Revue. He stood out from the other characters due to his distinct laugh. That laugh left such an impression on Walt Disney that the character started to feature in other cartoons and before you know it, Goofy became part of the Mickey Mouse gang!
Initially, he was called, Dippy Dawg but by 1939, his name was finalised with the release of his first solo cartoon, Goofy and Wilbur. He then starred in 49 of his own cartoons and appeared along with Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck in many of their shows.
On the 1oz pure silver coin, there is a coloured image of the adorable Goofy and Wilbur, which contrasts beautifully against the mirror finish background.
