Dragons - The Norse Dragon 2oz Silver Coin
Struck in 2oz pure silver, the greedy and treacherous Fafnir, The Norse Dragon, features on this third release in our exciting Mythical Dragons of the World coin collection.
Fafnir was the strongest and most aggressive of the dwarf king Hreidmar’s three sons. Incited by greed, Fafnir killed his father and took his riches for himself into the wilderness where he slowly turned into a dragon, a symbol of greed, in order to guard his treasure.
Regin, the king’s other son, also wanted the treasure and plotted revenge sending his apprentice Sigurd to kill Fafnir. However, after slaying the dragon, Sigurd heard that it was Regin’s intention to kill him - so instead Sigurd killed Regin and left victorious with Fafnir’s treasure.
The coin shows the beautifully illustrated Norse Dragon being slain by Sigurd. Partial colouring further enhances the drama of the image.
The obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and is legal tender in Niue.
The coin is presented in antique book-style packaging in keeping with the theme. The Certificate of Authenticity is printed alongside the coin confirming its silver purity and limited mintage of only 2,000 coins.
