Samwise Gamgee is well known for his role in protecting Frodo and destroying the One Ring. After being pressed into service as his companion and guardian, this loyal Hobbit demonstrated the faith Gandalf the Grey placed in him was well-deserved. Many regard Sam as the true hero of THE LORD OF THE RINGS™. Indeed, the quest to destroy the Ring would have certainly failed without him!
The 1/4oz gold coin shows Samwise wearing his travelling cloak and pack, on his journey with the Fellowship – where his frying pan came in handy as a weapon! This raised and frosted image contrasts beautifully against the mirror finish background. While the 1oz silver coin takes us back to the journey down the Anduin River in Elven boats supplied by the Elf Lord Celeborn. Samwise Gamgee rides with his friend, Frodo Baggins, in their own boat as they continue their quest to Mordor to destroy the One Ring. This dramatic journey includes a poignant moment in the film with Sam’s near drowning and his promise never to leave Frodo’s side.
These are the sixth character coins to appear in our THE LORD OF THE RINGS™ Classic Coin Collection. All are legal tender and feature the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse side. They arrive inside THE LORD OF THE RINGS themed boxes, and each coin has its own quality display case. A Certificate of Authenticity is included in this case with the coin’s unique serial number in the limited mintages – 3,000 for the silver and only 250 for the gold!
