Today’s Chibi® Coin launch is the fifth for our THE LORD OF THE RINGS™ series and features the Ring-corrupted Hobbit, Gollum!
During his centuries of loneliness and under the Ring's influence, Gollum develops two separate personalities. He constantly fights between the two sides of himself, but the evil one is purely motivated by the Ring and a complete slave to it, overwhelming his former Hobbit-self who still vaguely remembers things like friendship and love. Gollum both loved and hated the Ring and himself, often referred to as "my Precious".
Although barely glimpsed in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), he becomes a central character in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002) and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003), eventually becoming the one to destroy the Ring after seizing it from Frodo Baggins at the Cracks of Doom and falling into the fiery volcano!
Officially licensed, this 1oz pure silver coin shows the pale-skinned Gollum wearing his loincloth. Together with his large, beady eyes, small strands of brown hair and few sharpened teeth, he is instantly recognisable. The effigy of Queen Elizabeth II is found on the opposite side of the coin as confirmation that this is, in fact, still legal tender.
The outer box is THE LORD OF THE RINGS themed and includes a large window so the coin can be displayed easily. This is a precious prize indeed, with only 2,000 being minted! A Certificate of Authenticity is printed on the box along with the coin’s unique serial number.
